Er is met zekerheid vastgesteld dat er een relatie is tussen vitamine D deficiëntie en positieve Covid testen en Covid sterfgevallen. Vitamine D3 en C zijn heel veilige supplementen om bij te nemen. De beste bron is uiteraard zonlicht, zoveel mogelijk (en zonder zonnecrème en zonnebril). Tijdens herfst en winter is de UV straling in België/Nederland niet sterk genoeg om voldoende vitamine D aan te maken. In lente en zomer is minimaal een half uur rechtstreeks zonlicht (tussen 11 en 15 uur) het minimum. Vitamine D zit ook in zuivel, vette vis en orgaanvlees (maar niet voldoende, tenzij je elke dag vis eet, wat niet aanbevolen wordt vanwege mogelijke kwikvergiftiging).
